The Town of Lakeshore is new, having been established in 1999 by the Townships of Maidstone, Rochester, Tilbury North and Tilbury West. This region of Canada was one of the first to be explored and settled in.
Lakeshore has 3 main Museums called:
Comber & District Historical Society Museum which was opened in 1967. It contains artifacts that portray lakeshores history and its former pioneer days.
Maidstone Bicentennial Museum which was founded in 1984 to display and preserve the heritage and culture of Lakeshore. The community has donated and loaned many historical artifacts to the museum for everyone to enjoy.
The John Freeman Walls Historical Site & Underground Railroad Museum is a local tourist attraction that allows people to experience and understand the Underground Railroad. This site was built with inspriation from the book "The Road that Led to Somewhere".
The Lakeshore hockey team is the Belle River Canadiens. They play in the Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League. There is also a youth baseball team which are called the Belle River Braves.
There are 23 park areas thoughout the area with over 200 acres of land. The parks contain:

Lakeshore also has a Marina called "Belle River Marina". It is deep water and has over 270 docks. It has a restaurant, gas pump-out service, 24 hour security, boat ramp, washrooms, and other amenities found in the Lakeview Park and Beach area.
