Tecumseh was originally known as Ryegate Postal Station in 1792 when it was settled. It was renamed in 1912 after the Shawnee tribe leader. It became a town in 1921.
Every August the town of Tecumseh hosts the Tecumseh Corn Festival. It is held for four days and on the Saturday there is an annual parade that all the local businesses advertise and throw candy to the children. The festival also has major concerts at the festival with performers such as Foreigner, Eddie Money, Finger Eleven and Hedley with more to come.
